How to remove Win 7 Antispyware 2012

So your computer is telling you have 9999 viruses and this program wants you to pay to remove them? Fear not.

The program is a fake, you probably have no viruses what so ever, this just freaks people out when they see it, and they want to get it removed right away. Basically what this program does, gives you false information and doesn’t let you run exe’s, thats about it, heres a quick fix.

Step 1:
Start > in the search field type ‘command’ alliteratively you can press Win+R

Step 2:
When command opens (the black box) type ‘notepad’ and hit enter. Notepad will open, copy and paste the text below into notepad.

Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

[-HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Classes\.exe]
[-HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Classes\pezfile]
[-HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\.exe\shell\open\command]

[HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\exefile\shell\open\command]
@="\"%1\" %*"

[HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\.exe]
@="exefile"
"Content Type"="application/x-msdownload"

==========Contents of fix.inf (look the link above for more information)=======
[Version]
Signature="$Chicago$"
Provider=www.myantispyware.com

[DefaultInstall]
DelReg=regsec
AddReg=regsec1

[regsec]
HKCU, Software\Classes\.exe
HKCU, Software\Classes\pezfile
HKCR, .exe\shell\open\command

[regsec1]
HKCR, exefile\shell\open\command,,,"""%1"" %*"
HKCR, .exe,,,"exefile"
HKCR, .exe,"Content Type",,"application/x-msdownload"

Note: if you are doing this from another computer, just save the file to usb stick or some form of storage

Step 3:
After you have copied and pasted the text above to notepad, go to File > Save As or Ctrl+S, save the file as fix.reg and make sure the ‘Save type as’ is set to ‘All files (*.*)’. Save the file to your desktop, or if you are on another computer to your storage device.

Step 4:
Double click ‘fix.reg’ a box will pop up, just click ‘Yes’ to it. Then it will confirm the keys have been added to your registry just click ‘OK’.
Reboot your computer.

Step 5:
Download Malwarebytes. If this doesn’t work when you double click on it to install, then right click and pick ‘Run as Administrator’ that should let you install it. Once you have installed and updated the software, you will see a screen with different types of scans, choose ‘Preform Quick Scan’ from the list, hit ‘Scan’, let it do its thing.

Final step:
When Mailwarebytes gets done, click on ‘Show Results’ make sure every box is checked/ticked (they normally are by default). Then click ‘Remove Selected’ let it do its thing. After its done, it will open a log, just close it, if it says you have to restart, then restart, if not, then restart manually, Start > Shutdown/Restart.

When your computer restarts, that annoying Win 7 Antispyware 2012 will be gone, and you can now be left in piece.

Hope this helped, if you have any problems feel free to drop a comment and let me know.

Be careful what you download in future!

    Excellent tips! A lot of these scareware programs are coming up now. I don’t know why people relish in scaring people.

      Cheers.
      It’s not so much to ‘scare’ people as such. Its to get money outta them. Some people out there don’t know much about computers and will pay if they think their computer is fucked.

    When I get to Step 4, I get a message that says “The specified file in not a registry script. You can only import binary registry files from within the registry editor.” when I try and open fix.reg on my desktop. What can I do?

    • Anto (Author)

      Are you sure you copied the registry info as its written above? Also, what version of Windows are you running?

      Your problem happens to me also when theres something not written correctly. If your editing in notepad make sure word wrap is turned of Format > Word Wrap then try to double click the reg file again, let me know how it goes =)

        Hey, I’m having the same problem as the guy above, I tried turning off Word wrap and it still didn’t work. Are you sure it’s on notepad because of the format I would think it’s on notepad ++. But anyways I’m running on a Windows 7 and I did copy right. Thanks

          I think this problem has been fixed by adobe now, no? Using their installer should work fine now, have you tired?

    Dam thanks alot it works :) yay I openned my computer and like 10 min later boom win 7 antispyware 2012 just pops out, i knew it was a fake but wasn’t sure how to delete it thanks.

    • Anto (Author)

      No problem =)

    Thank you, you are a godsend. This worked.

    To the people getting this error, “The specified file in not a registry script. You can only import binary registry files from within the registry editor.,” make sure you clicked on the little icon while scrolling over the registry code the author posted and “copy to clipboard.” You cannot just select the text then copy and paste. It must be the 2 page icon that says “copy to clipboard,” then paste that into notepad and save as fix.reg.

    This was a super easy method to removing this stupid virus that was clogging up my computer. Pure genius! I love you! Thank you thank you thank you! If you don’t mind, can I post this on my blog and facebook?

    • Anto (Author)

      Sure you can share it where ever you like =) but give credit where credit is due =). Glad i could help.

    ..and by the way, I saw other methods on removing this virus that required downloading numerous other programs to cleaning up the computer. Is your method a better way? Or are viruses still implanted? I never actually manually removed anything except with Malwarebytes caught—how can i be sure that it cleaned up my cpu well enough? Thank you again!

    • Anto (Author)

      Malwarebytes does a pretty good job of clearing it, you’ve no need to worry =). What it basically does is. Stops you from running some exe’s and what not, therefore malwarebytes couldn’t run. But you can rest assured its gone now if you followed the steps 100% :)

    Well, I’ve tried everything but I keep getting this problem: After I did what you asked, it fixed it. I was able to get online, etc. However, this virus breaks/blocks my Windows Security Center and Windows Firewall. I’ve searched everywhere online but many people that run into this problem don’t have a final solution. Would you be familiar with this problem by any chance?

    • Anto (Author)

      If it has done that, then just put your windows disc in and run repair, or restore to an older date.

    Excellent, thanks alot

    Would you mind adding comments to your .reg code? I do not understand what it is trying to do and therefore I can’t trust it.

    • Anto (Author)

      Maybe at some stage. You could google the code and it will tell you what it means and does. =). If you don’t want to trust it, thats fine with me =) you don’t have to use it bro.
